This past week served as a reminder of some of the poems I’ve written last year.
I had my own little party writing over the course of the 21 day poetic reflection through our Lockdown in South Africa, some poems dedicated to some countries in the World that Covid-19 was raging rampant in, at the time.
I’m yet to release some of these poetic adventures to the world, but perhaps this week, my mind turns to to my friends in India. The current plight is really a testimony to the worst face that Covid-19 has shown us, perhaps the closest other experience of this kind, being South America.
So, here’s, To a Nation of Light, written way back in 2020, but relevant still today.
To all my friends in Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Pune, stay safe, and this poem is for all of you once again.
Last week, also brought the guilty verdict of George Chauvin. I recalled last year, penning a poetic reflection to George Floyd, so here it is. We live in changing times to say the least, and we do have the responsibility to change and evolve our life’s narrative for future generations to come.
I know that these topics are quite serious, but I guess poetry serves as another lens to visualize, to make sense of and to reflect the world, but let me end on a lighter note.
Last week, I shared my daughter’s Trishara’s poem on this site. As you may guess, by now, the other munchkin in the household, felt a little left out. There’s nothing like some sibling rivalry to get the creative juices flowing, so here’s Nirvaan’s first poem on his mummy’s website. It’s called ‘The food poem’ …he’s almost 11, these little two stanzas describes his love for Nutella, and his disdain for broccoli.
Yes, to all mums out there, I’m also still working on the ‘eat your greens’ topic.
But I found this poem absolutely adorable, mums prerogative, I’d say.
Until next week, to those fortunate to have had Monday off, enjoy the short week ahead.
Much fun, frolic and sunshine to you all,
❤️
