Dear Poetry Lovers,

As I settle into another week, I reflect on the week that was.

A short working week, we’ll have to wait a while before another ‘spoil’ like this one.

Yet, some highlights to reflect on and be grateful for.

As usual, these days, as the universe would have it, I was asked to write a poem for someone special who turned 50.

Sure, I’ve written a few of these in the last while, but this one was different.

I had a request from Des Braaf, she was celebrating a friendship that’s spanned at least 30 years, whilst I listened to her story, it was like being transported way back in time, and yet, I was with her in the present moment.

It was my first experiment writing as if I was impersonating Des, surreal.

I’m happy to share, ‘My dearest Soul Sister, Carmi’, with you all. A testimony to friendship, all that was, and most of all everything that’s still to come. Special and inspiring, indeed.

My other highlight of the week was meeting ‘Talent’. She’s my new support in my household. She’s almost become my new extended arm and has brought much relief to me, let’s just say, my house and some of the chores, I’ve just not gotten around to, are starting to take shape again. It’s been a while.

Whilst I’m still reflecting on this new bond, yes, a poem, will follow in the coming weeks, for sure. I’m blown away by her sheer dedication, sheer willpower, sheer resilience, and she has this natural, structured brain, that I’m even taking lessons.

Specialness comes in every form.

I see and feel the first signs of winter chills, at least for us here along the Eastern Coastline of South Africa, finally came calling. It’s different, the air is lovely to breathe in, all crisp and clean, and yes, some of the winter woolies are out.

It takes me back to 13, I wrote this on the 13th Day of Lockdown last year, seems little has really changed, at least for me, anyway.

So here’s to strength, Light, and fun, for you all, as we start this 5 day week,

❤️
